Redbelly Kitchen Board proprietor Peter has a Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Environmental Resource Management and has supervised and participated in environmental restoration and survey projects including plants, birds and mammals over the last decade from the subtropical rainforest covered hills to the heath covered coastal plains of northern New South Wales. Working principally in threatened species habitat restoration and biodiversity enhancement. We therefore understand the issues involved in environmental degradation and hence like to know the origins of the timber that we use. Where possible our timber is sourced from fallen trees, trees removed for safety due to old age, their dangerous position or from plantation forest mill offcuts. Some is from our own property compliant with our conservation covenant. No timber is sourced from old growth forest. We live in the bush, our workshop is in the bush and we recreate in the bush, when you purchase a Redbelly Kitchen Board you can be assured that you are purchasing a truly sustainable product from people who wholeheartedly care.
In the past Peter has been a member of the Northern Rivers Wires animal rescue and rehabilitation organisation chiefly rescuing birds and small mammals and providing transport to appropriate carers. He is a member of Australian Birdlife (for 17 years) the oldest conservation organisation in Australia. He is still involved in natural resource management providing advice and occassionally giving talks on bush regeneration, riparian rehabilitation and weed management techniques to individuals, interested groups and rural communities.
